PI

Justin Greaves

Justin did his PhD at the University of Notre Dame and is now an Assistant Professor in the Environmental and Occupational Health Department at IU. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of transport for a number of different bacterial and viral pathogens in the environment. Using these mechanisms, He is able to understand relative risks of infection from each pathogen. Additional research interests involve microbial source tracking and viable environmental detections of pathogens to protect human health.

PhD Students

Sharon Kosgei

Sharon Kosgei is a PhD Student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. She holds a BS degree from University of Kabianga and a MPH degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Environmental Health. Her research focuses on the connection between enteric viruses and the oral cavity.

Qixue Cui

Qixue Cui is a PhD Student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. She holds a BS degree from University of California, Davis and a MPH degree from University of Michigan in Environmental Health. Her research focuses on the interactions and enhancements of enteric viruses by various fecal particles and microorganisms in the environment and the gut.

Research Technician

Olivia Birch

Olivia Birch is a Research Technician in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health working with both Dr. Roberto Rodriguez and Justin. She holds a BS degree from Indiana University in Environmental Science. She works with everyone and maintains the lab.

Master’s Students

Bhanu Kamma

Bhanu Kamma is a second year MS Student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from JNTUH College of Engineering. His research focuses on the interactions and particle associations of antibiotic resistant genes with various fecal particles in environmental waters and wastewater.

Hussain Alsaihati

Hussain Alsaihati is a second year MPH Student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. He holds a BS degree from IUPUI in Health Sciences and Rehabilitations. His research focuses on the wastewater surveillance for different types of illicit drugs.

Abigail Kawalec

Abigail Kawalec is a firsts year MPH Student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. She holds a BS degree Saint Mary's College in Environmental Studies. She will work with various cell culture methods and environmental detections of pathogens.
